I was speaking to a native leader at the Buffy Sainte Marie concert Sunday in Georgetown. The conversation reflected a view held among many many Islanders to whom I have spoken over the last few weeks.
There is a real level of distaste for the actions or inaction of many politicians and their failure to continue to speak to people after elected ...Continued failure of education even after all the promises ...Lack of connection with the very people who voted them in.
There was a heart felt request that I not stop being who I am and to remain true to what I believe in once I am elected.
The bottom line is that people are asking for leaders and leadership that they can respect and trust; they are not even looking for leaders they agree with. Just ones that they can respect and trust.

Farmers need marketing and distribution assistance
Farming family Manitoba today is having problems similar to PEI. Even in that larger province, small farms can't compete with large farms producing products for commodity markets, prices set based on large operations handling thousands of head of beef.
There is no system for farmers to market their product closer to the consumers. Small farmers need access to the same type of distribution system as larger farmers for their higher quality, healthy products so consumers can buy them at a sustainable price.
Marketing and distribution seems to be the common need in both provinces, what do you think?

PEI Medical System Out of Whack
Met with 2 "New Doctors" yesterday, both GPs moving to NS from out west. When I asked if they had considered PEI they told me PEI is not looking for doctors. I told them about my political aspirations and asked them if they would talk to me about the health care system. It was amazing what they were saying:
* The system is not working.
* As doctors they are doing very little real medicine rather they are dealing with splinters and rashes and very candidly they say that that is where they make their money rather than dealing with real medicines they have to pound through patients to make their salary
* Improve the system and cost by using Nurse Practitioners, preventive medicine, developing ownership from people using the system by allowing patients see just how much their system costs and how much is spent on individuals.
* We have all kinds of foreign trained doctors driving taxis because of road blocks in the system designed to keep down the number of doctors.
* The continued expansion of administrative paperwork in the health system is mostly to justify a growing administration not a growing doctor base.
We had an amazing conversation on what could be done to reduce costs and improve the system as well as address root problems and in the end they said no wants to listen.
They agreed if I actually want to improve our level of care and "REDUCE" cost they would love to share their ideas however they and many other forward looking doctors are getting tired of election promises and BS for a system that needs real leadership. I think I may have found a couple of grass root common sense doctors to consult with as we move ahead.

The Diet Must Be Working
Great news!!!!!!!!!! This political\diet thing is working. It seems the Guardian is reporting that someone may have suggested that I may be a light weight. It has been a long time since anyone has suggested that to me. Ha Ha, I think this diet may be working.

Find Waldo -- Oh, I Mean, Find Peter
I'm on the road doing kitchen meetings and old-fashioned greetings. Yesterday I hit the road with loaves of my own homemade bread. This is real tangible bread made with real tangible PEI wheat. I made the bread and took it out of the over at 1:20 a.m. so after a few winks when I loaded it in the car, it was still almost warm.
I think Gail Shea was having it for lunch today.
My journey took me up west -- okay, I did get lost a couple of times. I also went to Lennox Island to visit Minigoo Fisheries and had a great chat with some old buddies.

Peter for Premier
Why be shy? People who know me know that is not my persona. My way of working with the world is to shout my intentions from the rooftop, the back of the room, my deck overlooking the water, or from anywhere I stand.
I've tossed my hat into the ring with the ultimate goal of being PEI's new premier. It's 2010. It's time we started looking at politics from a brand new stance where the premier is accessible, aware, and accustomed to winning tough battles.
